P. J. Narayanan is the Director of IIIT, Hyderabad. He joined the institute in 2000 and was its Dean of Research from 2006. He got his bachelors from IIT, Kharagpur and his PhD from the University of Maryland. He was a research faculty member at the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University from 1992 to 1996 and a scientist at the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Bangalore till 2000. His research interests include Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, and GPU Computing. He was made a CUDA Fellow in 2008. He was the General Chair of ICVGIP 2000 and the Program Co-Chair of ACCV 2006 and ICVGIP 2010. He was the Area Chair of ICCV 2007 and 2011 and of ACCV 2007, 2009, and 2010. He was the President of ACM India from 2012 to 2014 and was the its Co-Chair from 2009 till 2012. He is currently the Chair of Research Board of ACM India.

Title: Non-Invasive 3D Capture: Some Thoughts

Abstract: Capturing the 3D world for digital manipulation is important to several applications in engineering, design, entertainment, etc. Computer Vision has offered several solutions in the recent past. I will go through the history of non-invasive 3D capture quickly in this talk and present a few thoughts on what may be in store for the future.
