LIBRARY Basic Rules/Guidelines

General Guidelines

  1. Complete silence is to be observed in the library.
  2. Drinks and eatables are prohibited in the library.
  3. LRC services are available for the registered members only.
  4. It is mandatory for the members to carry their ID cards.
  5. Use of Mobile phone is not permitted in the LRC Block.
  6. Borrowers must thoroughly check the physical condition of the book/s before borrowing.
  7. Members are responsible for any book/s issued against their membership.
  8. Readers are not allowed to carry their personal book/s or any other printed material inside the LRC.
  9. The personal belongings like bags, umbrellas, etc. are to be kept at the Property Counter.
  10. Readers are advised not to leave their precious and valuable items like money, passport, credit card etc., at the Property Counter.
  11. Cash and other valuables are not allowed in the library. The library staff is not responsible for any loss.
  12. Causing disfiguration or damage to books, furniture or other resources available in the library is strictly prohibited.
  13. Readers must not share their net access ID and Password with other students.
  14. Students must take care of their Pen drives, Cell Phones, Wallets etc.
  15. Abusive language and improper behavior are strictly prohibited.
  16. Photography, filming and video recording are prohibited inside the library, except when prior permission has been taken from the Competent authority.
  17. Members are ethically liable to maintain the library resources by keeping them protected and clean for optimum utilization.


Circulation Guidelines

  • Borrowers can get the books issued, as per their entitlement.
  • Reference books, CDs/DVDs, Journals are not issued at all.
  • Book/s may be retained for a period not exceeding ten days, and beyond the date marked on the date slip pasted inside the book.
  • A fine of Rs 5 per book per day is levied after the expiry of the due date.
  • Members must keep the Library informed of any change of address, change of hostel, change of subject etc.
  • LRC can recall any issued book, even before the due date. Issued book/s returned after the due date attracts overdue charges.
  • For loss of LRC book/s, the member has to pay double the cost of book/s, with fine. The fine is not more than the cost of book/s.
  • Members must satisfy themselves about the physical condition of the book/s before borrowing. They shall be held responsible for any damage noticed/ reported later, at the time of returning. Members shall be required to replace/deposit the cost (along with binding charges) of the book/s reported lost or found damaged or defected in any form. Defaulters might be suspended form using the Library.
  • Students can reserve book/s at the circulation counter, in case it is already issued.
  • Loss of library book/s should be immediately reported to the Circulation Desk to avoid unnecessary fine, which is electronically calculated on daily basis.   
  • When a smart card is lost, duplicate card can be issued by the library. The member shall however, continue to be responsible for any loss/misuse of the lost card.


Note: In case of any difficulty, the Library staff must be immediately contacted.
