The Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Information Technology is a leading department of Jaypee Institute of Information Technology (JIIT), Noida which is a UGC approved, AICTE approved, NAAC accredited & NIRF ranked Deemed to be University. From last four years, JIIT is lying in the top 100 leading institutions in the country as per NIRF ranking. It thrives to be a centre of excellence in evolving key areas of computing & IT; like artificial intelligence and machine learning, cloud computing, big data, Internet of Things (IoT) etc. The department with its strong and dedicated team of faculty members & under the leadership & vision of very reputed & dedicated visionaries, always aims to provide high quality education and nurture future leaders in the field of IT professionals, researchers and entrepreneurs.

The Department comprises of more than 100 experienced, self-motivated, dynamic and highly experienced faculty members. More than 60 % of them are Ph.D. in different areas of Computer Science and Engineering & others are their advance stage of completing the doctoral degree. Department has total 47 labs, which are equipped with state of the art computing facility and infrastructure requirement. The department offers following programmes:

  • Dual degree (5 years Integrated M.Tech)
  • M.Tech (with different specialization)

PhD

Currently more than 120 Ph.D. scholars are registered in the department, which itself is an indication towards the research environment in the department. There are scholars from various other countries also who are pursuing their master programmes in the department. Our commitment to remain the best and always up-to-date in parallel with the changes happening in technology & contemporary skill set in demand by our recruiter, is quite visible as in last five year, more than 125 elective courses at UG & PG level were developed by the faculty members.

Our main strength is our programming culture. Teaching pedagogy lays heavy emphasis on programming skills nurtured through contemporarily designed laboratory courses and minor / major project. A well designed progressive curriculum at both UG and PG level is there  with several courses on Data Analytics, Cloud, Fog and Edge Computing, Big Data Technologies,  Cyber Security, Internet of Things , Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Blockchain, Multimedia computing and latest development in software processes like DevOps and Kubernetes. Department regularly organizes co-curricular technical activities like online programming competitions, hackathons, Robotics hub, Google Developer Group workshops and graphic designing workshops etc. This gives JIITians an edge over other undergraduates and post graduates.

IT Giants like Amazon, Adobe, Google, D.E.Shaw, Morgan Stanley, Deloitte, SAP & many others are regular recruiters. It’s worth mentioning here that the number of companies offering package more than INR 10 Lac per annum (LPA) are increasing every years & in 2020 only, total 105 students of CSE & IT bagged 7 digit package offered by more than 30 companies. On an average, approximately 130 companies visit JIIT to recruit IT professionals every year. This year, the highest package offered was as high as INR 43.17 LPA by Adobe to 4 CSE & IT students, followed by 34 LPA offer by D.E. Shaw to 7 students, 28 LPA offer by Amazon to 32 students, 25 LPA offer by Morgan Stanley to 6 students & so on. Average package offered to CSE students was 8.7 LPA with median 6.0 LPA and to IT students, average was 9.4 LPA with median 7.5 LPA. Software professionals who are graduated from JIIT are well respected and are demand all over the world. Course Curriculum is continuously improvised by taking inputs from industry experts and eminent academicians and also keeping in mind the upcoming trends.  Weekly practical assignments are given to students. Through various active learning experiences in laboratories, students gain more insights into the field of study, develop ability to apply their knowledge to a greater extent, exhibit a greater level of understanding of course material and sharpen their problem solving skills. A lot of emphasis is given to the projects in the curriculum. Students work on various well diversified fields of computer science & engineering and information technology - image processing, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, information security, digital forensics, mobile computing, distributed system, computer network, software engineering, web applications, data mining, etc.  Many students also publish papers based on their projects in collaboration with the faculty. Senior students are encouraged to mentor their juniors in lab and project work. All graduates find excellent placements in industry. Many students choose to continue their higher studies at world’s top universities. A few students also take up the challenge to set up their own IT start-ups.   Many members of our alumni also provide their support by delivering guest lectures, feedback on curriculum, and also mentoring and personal guidance to students.

Minor Specialization

The Department offers opportunity to B.Tech students to opt for Minor Specialization in the areas other than their main branch. The students, after successfully completing the requirements, will be awarded an additional certificate of Minor Area e.g., a student can have Minor Specialization in Electronics and Communication Engineering or Biotechnology etc. The students from Electronics and Communication Engineering or Biotechnology can also do minor in Computer Science and Engineering.

Student Enrichment Programmes

Department has several technical hubs that organize special lectures/workshops and seminars on regular basis. These technical hubs provide platform to students to exhibit their talent wisely and at a different level. The main hubs working in department for student‘s enrichment are: (a) Knuth – The Programming Hub (b) Microcontroller Based System and Robotics Hub (uCR) (c) Multimedia Development (d) Graphic Design and Animation.

A Two-Day Technical Festival called Cyber Srishti is also conducted every year in which several technical events areorganised by various Technical Hubs of the Institute. Many dignitaries from industries are invited to witness the events organised in the tech-fest. Several technical events are conducted during two days tech-fest that  majorly include: Project Exhibition, Hackathon (Capture the Flag, Game-A-Thon), Coding Challenge (Execute 19.1), Hardware Events (Robotics Exhibition and Circuitrix), Bio-Tech Events (Hydrophilic 4.0, Who’ the next Sherlock, and Make your Masterpiece), Paper Presentation (Tensor (Poster Presentation) and Paper Presentation), Start-up Summit, Reflect - Turncoat Debate, Website Designing, Photo Exhibition, Jaypee Premier League, etc. More than 2000 participations participated in different rounds of various events.

In the last few years, more than 15 students have qualified for prestigious Google Summer of Code(GSoC) program.  In this program students are selected for a summer project under Google nominated mentors.

Faculty Publications

Department faculty members publish more than 100 research works every year in reputed International Journals/Conferences, which are indexed in Scopus/DBLP/Web of Science/ EiCompendex. Our faculty published  138 Scopus indexed and 22 Web of Science indexed papers during last year with total citation count of last 4 years (Google scholar) going upto 1504.  Some of our research has been cited by the researchers at world’s top 100 universities, e.g., MIT, University of Oxford, Purdue University, Tsinghua University, University of Maryland, Dartmouth College, etc.

Annual conference/Special events

The department has active collaboration with University of Florida. Department organizes various Conferences, Workshops, FDP, Seminars, Expert talks and Student Enrichment Program. With an objective of providing a forum to scientists and researchers, to discuss and put forward their ideas and research findings with the co-researchers from all over the world, department of CSE&IT organizes an annual international conference on International Conference on Contemporary Computing (IC3). This Conference (https://www.ic3conference.com/) is jointly organized every year since 2008 by the Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida, India and the University of Florida, Gainesville, USA. It focuses on topics that are of contemporary interest to computer and computational scientists and engineers. IC3 brings together researchers and practitioners from academia, industry and government to deliberate upon the algorithmic, systemic, applied, and educational aspects of contemporary computing. The conference features world-class keynote speakers, exhibits, special sessions, tutorials, and paper presentations. With the participation of several experts and their diverse areas of research, the conference helps in meeting the future challenges of industry, academia and research.

Previous IC3 proceedings are indexed by DBLP, SCOPUS, and Google Scholar.  According to Google Scholar, IC3′s h5 index = 10 and h5 median = 15. The publishers of the previous proceedings are – IEEE Xplore, USA (2013-2014), Springer, Germany (2009-2012), and McMillan, India (2008).
