Green Initiatives & Waste Management Cell

The Green Initiatives & Waste Management Cell (GIWM) at JIIT Noida is the institute’s central body for promoting sustainability, environmental responsibility, and effective waste management practices. GIWM undertakes strategic projects and initiatives to embed environmental awareness within campus life and extend its impact to surrounding communities.

GIWM functions through a structured framework that enables planning, implementation, and monitoring of sustainable initiatives across the institute.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Wastewater recycling and efficient resource utilization
  • Documentation and implementation of green policies
  • Execution of institute-recognized sustainability programs
  • Extending green initiatives to neighboring communities
  • Participation in climate change–related events such as workshops, conferences, and training programs
  • Development of smart displays and interactive models for awareness
  • Establishment and utilization of rainwater harvesting structures
Past Events
  • Waves of Words – Writing Competition
    On the occasion of World Water Day, GIWM JIIT-62 hosted an online poetry and story writing competition — Waves of Words. Students expressed their thoughts on water and sustainability in English and Hindi. Selected entries were published in the institute newsletter.
  • Synergy’25 – Relay Hunt
    As part of Synergy’25, Relay Hunt offered a thrilling multi-round challenge filled with tasks, teamwork, and time-based fun. The event saw high energy and active participation.
  • Synergy’25 – Aap Ki Kahani
    Aap Ki Kahani brought storytelling to life in Synergy’25 with a blend of creativity, roleplay, and fun themes. Participants shared unique stories in an engaging format.
  • File Flow 3.0
    As part of a sustainable campus initiative, File Flow 3.0 aimed to promote eco-friendly practices by distributing reusable files for student documentation needs. The event encouraged small but impactful steps towards reducing waste and embracing sustainability
  • Plantation Drive for Energy & Pollution Awareness
    The teams united for a plantation drive to reaffirm their commitment to a greener and healthier planet. Each sapling planted symbolizes hope, sustainability, and a promise to future generations.The initiative highlighted the importance of conservatIon, pollution control, and collective action, showing how small steps can lead to meaningful environmental change.
  • Team Green Orientation – “Blissful”
    Held on 26th September in LT-1, the event welcomed new members with a Titanic-themed evening full of fun and insights. Designed to introduce the spirit and goals of Team Green, the orientation was a smooth sail into the new session — and yes, this Titanic didn’t sink!
  • Stationery Swap Shop – A Green Campus Initiative
    On April 18th, Team Green Campus set up a Stationery Swap Shop near the printing shop, promoting sustainability through reuse. Students donated unused notebooks, one-sided sheets, and extra stationery, giving supplies a second life while reducing waste. The initiative encouraged everyone to reduce, reuse, and recycle – making the campus greener, one pen at a time.
  • Reel the Nature, Feel the Nature
    On 25th February, Team Green Campus Chapter, in collaboration with the GIWM Cell, hosted a unique event titled “Reel the Nature, Feel the Nature” at the ABB Atrium. The event celebrated the elegance of nature through creative short reels, capturing the charm of campus greenery and environmental awareness. With an enthusiastic response from participants and exciting cash prizes, the event successfully blended creativity with conservation.
  • Find Diamond in Woods – A Nature Scavenger Hunt
    Team Green organized an exciting nature-themed scavenger hunt, “Find Diamond in Woods,” promoting environmental awareness through fun and exploration. Students engaged in clue-solving and adventure-based tasks around the campus. The event saw great participation and concluded with cash prizes for the winners.
  • Community Plantation Drive
    Team Green Hub of JIIT, along with LDL Hub, conducted a heartfelt plantation drive to promote environmental care and awareness among underprivileged children. The activity involved planting a variety of flowers and plants, engaging local kids in the joy of nurturing nature.
  • Waste Collection & Folder Distribution Drive
    Team Green at JIIT hosted a productive drive focused on sustainability, combining E-waste collection with folder distribution. Donated folders from faculty members were distributed to students to promote reuse. The event also featured an E-waste bin set up in partnership with EWRI.in to responsibly manage electronic waste for 3–4 days post-event. This initiative empowered students to take small yet impactful steps toward a greener campus.
  • Team Green Orientation 2023
    The Team Green Orientation welcomed new students passionate about sustainability and environmental action. The session introduced attendees to Team Green’s mission, past projects, and upcoming campaign
