Research Highlights

Dr. Gaurav Verma is an accomplished academic and researcher in the domain of Embedded Systems, IoT, VLSI Design, and Machine Learning applications for low-power computing. With a strong interdisciplinary background combining a Ph.D. in Electronics and Communication Engineering, an M.Tech. from IIT Kharagpur, and nearly two decades of teaching and research experience, Dr. Verma has made significant contributions to both theory and applied research. His doctoral research focused on power reduction techniques and the development of accurate power estimation models for FPGA implementations, addressing one of the key challenges in modern electronics: energy-efficient hardware design. By integrating regression and machine learning approaches, his work introduced improved models for predicting and minimizing power consumption, thereby advancing the design of IoT and wireless communication systems.

Dr. Verma has an extensive publication record of 85 papers in SCIE, Scopus, and other indexed journals, along with several book chapters and three authored books, including Embedded Devices and Internet of Things – Technologies and Applications (CRC Press, 2024). His impactful publications cover areas such as FPGA-based low-power architectures, IoT-enabled smart systems, and applications of machine learning in digital circuit optimization. His work has earned more than 745 citations (h-index: 14), reflecting strong recognition in the global research community. Innovation is central to his research trajectory, evidenced by three published Indian patents on FPGA-based power estimation tools, smart healthcare devices, and novel adder architectures. These innovations bridge the gap between academic research and industry needs, reinforcing his role as both a researcher and innovator.

Dr. Verma has actively collaborated with industries and government bodies, including DRDO, Jaypee Kanpur Fertilizer Limited, and Landis+Gyr, on projects ranging from FPGA-based control systems to UAV-enabled plant disease detection and EEG/EMG-based embedded systems. His leadership as Principal Investigator and coordinator has brought technological solutions to real-world applications in defense, agriculture, and healthcare. Beyond research, he has played a pivotal role in academic development and capacity building. He established advanced IoT and VLSI laboratories, designed specialized curricula, and mentored 21 M.Tech. and 5 Ph.D. scholars, thereby nurturing the next generation of researchers. His contributions have been recognized with awards such as the IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section Young Professional Star Award (2021) and the Best Doctoral Thesis Award at RACE-2019 (Bangkok).

With a dynamic portfolio spanning embedded hardware, IoT, machine learning, and smart systems, Dr. Verma continues to drive impactful research that integrates low-power design methodologies, sustainable technology development, and industry-driven innovations. His work not only advances the scientific community but also aligns with the evolving technological demands of Industry 4.0 and smart societies.
