Biography

Dr. Joysmita Chatterjee is currently working as an Assistant Professor (Senior Grade) in Electronics and Communication Department, JIIT-62 Noida. She has 1.5 years of industrial and 4.5 years of teaching experience. She received the B.Tech. degree in electronics and communication engineering from the West Bengal University of Technology, West Bengal, India, in 2009, and the M.Tech. degree from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur, West Bengal, in 2012. She has received the Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute

of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, West Bengal in 2022. She has worked as a Research Engineer in GE Aerospace Research, Bengaluru post completion of Ph.D. She has also worked as an Assistant Professor in various private engineering universities and colleges, from 2012 to 2016, such as KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, the ABES Engineering College, Ghaziabad, India, and the Inderprastha Engineering College, Ghaziabad, India, where she was involved in teaching and other academic and research activities. Her research interests include metamaterial and metasurface-based planar antennas, reconfigurable antennas, MIMO antenna, for various wireless communication applications. She is a member of IEEE and IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society. She is also a reviewer of many reputed journals like IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, IEEE Transactions on Components, Packaging, and Manufacturing Technology, IEEE Antenna and Wireless Propagation Letters, IET Microwaves, Antennas and Propagation, Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, and has also acted as a reviewer of various conferences like IEEE Indian Conference on Antennas and Propagation, IEEE International Conference on signal Processing and Communication (ICSC), and IEEE MAPCON.

Research Highlights

Core Research areas: Microwave antennas, Metamaterials and Metasurfaces

My area of research is primarily focussed on application of metamaterials and metasurfaces for performance improvement of antennas for various wireless applications. Performance enhancement in terms of radiation parameters like bandwidth, gain, radiation pattern has been explored. Besides that, reconfigurable antennas designs have been explored where reconfigurability is achieved in terms of frequency, polarization. Other than that, in my research work, metasurfaces have also been employed to reduce the radar cross section (RCS) of antennas, as well as planar and conformal surfaces over a wideband.

Key Funded Projects: NIL

Impact on Industry/academia:

My research work focuses on introducing some structural modifications on various passive components primarily antennas using metamaterials and metasurfaces, which can not only improve its radiation characteristics but also, make them simple and compact. Antennas form a crucial component of RF front end and improving their characteristics is particularly useful for various wireless communication applications.
