Research Highlights

The research focuses on the advancement of high-efficiency photovoltaic tandem solar cells and FPGA-based reconfigurable computing systems for renewable energy applications. Core areas include the design and optimization of perovskite tandem solar cells and power, area and latency estimation for a VLSI circuit implemented on FPGA. Notable innovations include a novel mathematical model for area and power estimation of VLSI circuits on Virtex/Spartan FPGA and implementation of a monolithic tandem solar cell using silicon as top cell and perovskite as bottom cell. These advancements have direct applications in grid-tied solar plants, portable solar-powered systems, and autonomous renewable energy units for remote locations. The research group has active collaborations with IMD (Indian Metrological Department) and TDA foundation. The outcomes have significantly impacted both academia and industry — contributing to high-impact journal publications, patents on FPGA-based MPPT controllers, and technology transfer to solar product manufacturers and Integrated FPGA-VLSI power estimation modules, while industry benefits from early-stage design optimization strategies, leading to reduced development cost and improved product energy performance.
