Dr. Diwakar Sharma

Biography

Dr. Diwakar Sharma is working as an Assistant Professor with extensive expertise in biotechnology, molecular biology, and cancer research. He holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, where his doctoral research focused on deciphering the role and clinical significance of non-coding RNAs in pediatric Wilms Tumor. His academic background also includes an M.Sc. in Biochemistry from Jamia Hamdard, where he developed strong foundations in molecular cloning, protein purification, and antibody development. Professionally, Dr. Sharma has served as Project Research Scientist I at AIIMS, New Delhi, advancing aptamer-based point-of-care diagnostic tools for sexually transmitted diseases, and has contributed significantly to pediatric oncology research, particularly in RNA biology and the establishment of diagnostic cytogenetics facilities. He has also led impactful environmental CSR initiatives, such as large-scale tree plantation drives to promote sustainability. His technical expertise spans primary/ secondary cell culture, FACS, PCR, cytogenetics, ELISA, molecular assays, bioinformatics, and project management, supported by strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Dr. Sharma’s research has resulted in multiple peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and presentations at prestigious conferences in the USA, Korea, and India. Beyond his scientific work, he is the author of several poetry and non-fiction books, exploring themes of psychology, societal critique, and human connections. An active member of global scientific communities, including the International Society of Paediatric Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology and the International Society of Liquid Biopsy, Dr. Sharma continues to integrate rigorous research with creativity, striving to make meaningful contributions to both science and society.

Research Highlights

Dr. Diwakar Sharma’s research portfolio encompasses a multidisciplinary integration of molecular oncology, diagnostic innovation, and translational science. His work extends beyond conventional cancer biology, with a particular emphasis on exosome-mediated intercellular communication and the characterization of their long non-coding RNA cargo as minimally invasive biomarkers for early cancer detection, prognosis, and therapeutic monitoring. He has made significant contributions to the advancement of SELEX-based aptamer technology, focusing on the development of rapid, cost-effective point-of-care diagnostic assays for Chlamydia trachomatis, addressing critical needs in sexually transmitted disease detection, particularly in resource-limited settings. Dr. Sharma has played a key role in establishing cytogenetic diagnostic capabilities, utilizing karyotyping and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for precise genomic profiling in pediatric oncology. His expertise in bioinformatics has supported the identification of potential molecular regulators and therapeutic targets, integrating computational analyses with protein–protein interaction mapping and laboratory-based validation. Additionally, his research investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying chemoresistance in hematological malignancies, linking non-coding RNA-mediated regulation to disrupted apoptotic and proliferative pathways. He has also contributed to clinically integrated projects, such as the Cancer Survivorship Program for children, combining molecular biomarker evaluation with long-term patient care strategies. Beyond the biomedical domain, his leadership in environmental sustainability projects through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives demonstrates a broader commitment to societal well-being. Through a synergistic approach that bridges basic science, applied diagnostics, and public health, Dr. Sharma continues to pursue research that advances precision medicine while fostering impactful interdisciplinary collaborations.
