Dr. Simmi Sharma

Biography

Dr. Simmi Sharma is an Assistant Professor (Senior Grade) in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Jaypee Institute of Information Technology (JIIT), Noida. She holds a Ph.D. from Delhi Technological University (DTU), Delhi, M.Tech in Control Systems from National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra (NIT, KKr.) and B.Tech. from Kurukshetra University (KU). With an academic career spanning over 16+ years, she has made significant contributions to teaching, research and academic administration.

Her primary research interests lie in Modeling, Control and Reliability Analysis of Photo Voltaic (PV) Emulators, an area in which she has authored publications in reputed SCI, ESCI and SCOPUS-indexed journals as well as in Electrical India magazine. She is proud recipient of the Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Renewable Technologies in Engineering (ICRTE-22), held at Manav Rachna University, Faridabad.

She has actively participated in Technical, Cultural and University-level committees, contributing to institutional development beyond her academic responsibilities. She has also demonstrated her commitment to professional growth and knowledge sharing by attending Technical Talks, Expert lectures, Seminars and Workshops at various platforms.

Research Highlights

Her research focuses on the Modeling of PV Emulators to accurately replicate the electrical characteristics of photovoltaic (PV) panels under varying environmental and load conditions. The study encompasses different types of PV panel emulator characteristics, including linear, non-linear, hybrid, and robust models, to capture transient and steady-state behaviours. Various controller strategies—from conventional PI/PID to AI-based controllers—have been developed and compared for improved accuracy, fast transient response and enhanced stability under disturbances.

The Reliability and Availability Analysis of PV Emulators is a key contribution, ensuring long-term operational performance in mission-critical applications. Methods such as State Transition Matrix (STM) method, Military Handbook (MIL-HDBK) standards and Petri Net-based approaches are applied to estimate mean time to failure (MTTF), identify failure modes and optimize maintenance strategies. These reliability frameworks enable systematic evaluation of Emulator performance under component degradation, controller malfunction and parameter drift.
