M.Sc in Microbiology

M.Sc. Microbiology is a full-time credit-based 2-year program run by the Department of Biotechnology. The curriculum of the M.Sc Microbiology has been designed with a balanced mix of basic and advanced theory and practical courses with the aim of keeping students abreast of the latest advances in the field. The M.Sc in microbiology course encompasses various booming fields within the domain, focusing on microbiology in medicine and pharmacy, agriculture, food and dairy industry, and environment, emphasising the latest advances in the field. Core (such as Microbial Genetics and Molecular Biology, Environmental Microbiology, Enzymes & Bioprocess Technology, Medical Microbiology, Food & Dairy Microbiology, Recombinant DNA Technology) and optional (such as Bioinformatics & Omics, Probiotics & Prebiotics, Microbial Technology, Metagenomics and Microbiomics) subjects in various fields of microbiology and allied areas provide in-depth knowledge. The M.Sc in microbiology program offers an optimum blend of theory, labs and dissertation/hands-on project work, realising the importance of transposing theoretical knowledge into practical implementation. The final semester of the M.Sc Microbiology provides the base to hone their research skill in dissertation work and present their research findings. The intention is to open various avenues for our graduates, preparing them for diverse career opportunities in Hospitals, Diagnostics, pharma, and Biopharma R&D, Clinical laboratories, the Food Industry, Food Safety, and Quality Control, as well as in core biotechnology industries.
