Jaypee Institute of Information Technology celebrated the 10th International Day of Yoga on 21 June 2024. Yoga is a holistic practice that integrates the body, mind, and spirit. Yoga is a way of life for better living and it is one of the simplest ways to build self-confidence and feel empowered. This year's theme for International Yoga Day, "Yoga for Women Empowerment," emphasized the transformative power of yoga in enhancing women's physical and mental well-being. The event witnessed approx. 85 attendees. The participants consisted of students, faculty members, staff and their family members from JIIT.

The event was meticulously organized with the invaluable guidance and support of our esteemed Dean (Academics & research) and HOD Biotechnology Department, Prof Pammi Gauba and Prof Alka Sharma, Dean Humanities and social sciences and coordinator, NSS.

Around 80 members including students of JIIT B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc., Ph.D., and faculty members participated in the event. In recent time, one major student problem is getting burden of assignments, and balancing social media distractions and approaching deadlines is a big issue for students. Students find themselves overburdened trying to balance social responsibilities, part-time jobs, and coursework. One of the solutions to overcome with poor lifestyle is to promote awareness of yoga and meditation among the masses, especially young people. Therefore, by meditating regularly, students can develop the ability to cope with stress and can maintain calm in pressurizing situations. This quality boosts their emotional competency, confidence, self-esteem, and willpower. Exam anxiety sufferers may benefit from meditation. Yoga and meditation are often considered as a good source of relaxation as they aid in lowering blood pressure as well as hormone regulation. The Yoga and health hub tried to highlight this issue with the help of offline lecture session with meditation organized for the young students. The session focused on the importance of meditation, not falling for peer pressure and most importantly to overcome with the busy lifestyle burden and exam anxiety.

The yoga competition was a day filled with enthusiasm, strength, and serenity as 18 participants from various backgrounds came together to showcase their yoga skills.  The competition kicked off with a high-energy skipping contest. Participants demonstrated remarkable stamina and rhythm, with the top performers managing over 200 skips without missing a beat. The Om chant competition was a serene contrast, filling the room with a deep sense of calm.  The Surya Namaskar, or Sun Salutation, competition tested participants' flexibility, strength, and fluidity of movement. The challenge was to complete as many rounds as possible in a set time frame. The plank competition pushed physical limits, with contestants holding the plank position for extended periods. This unique competition combined the artistry of dance with the discipline of yoga, as participants transitioned from dynamic movements into static yoga asanas.  The day concluded with awards and recognition for the winners and participants. The competition not only celebrated the physical achievements of the contestants but also highlighted the deeper essence of yoga—a harmonious blend of mind, body, and spirit.

According to yoga tradition, the chakras are part of the subtle body, a part of you that you can’t see or touch. It’s where your energy flows, which is why it’s also referred to as the energy body. A well-tuned asana practice can free up energy and stimulate an imbalanced chakra, paving the way for that wonderful internal shift for which yoga is known. A Special YOGA Session was successfully conducted on “Introduction to Chakras and post- COVID complications” by the Yoga and Health Hub on 18 June 2021.

Yoga sessions were conducted on “Head, Neck and Shoulder” on 4th and 11th June, 2021. Active participation was seen throughout the session.  Yoga for tense neck and shoulders are asanas or poses that are targeted towards the spine since our neck and shoulders are connected to the spinal area. Yoga for neck and shoulders works towards creating flexibility in the spine and breathing helps one calm mind by relieving pain and stress. Yoga for stiff shoulders and neck also targets the muscles in neck and shoulders by stretching and strengthening them helping in easing their natural movements and enhancing the body’s ability to work and do other activities without straining these areas.
