Biography

Prakash Chandra Gupta has wide experience of R&D, planning and operating telecommunication networks and Internet. He joined Department of Telecom 1974 and during his twenty eight years of service in the department, he had opportunity to work on the international projects in Saudi Arabia, International Telecom Union, Geneva as a consultant.  In 2002, he joined Reliance Communications as Head of Data Networks and managed their data network roll-out.

To pursue his interest in academics, he joined Maharashtra Institute of Technology, Pune as Professor and Head of Department (IT). He worked as visiting faculty in Balaji Institute of Telecom Management (BITM) and in Symbiosis Centre for Information Technology (SCIT). His main professional interest at present is designing and conducting graduate / post graduate courses in the following areas.

  • Cryptography and Network Security.
  • Next Generation Networks (NGN).
  • Quality of Service.
  • Internet Technology, Computer networks, and VPNs.

Special Assignments

  • He was member of Development Coordination Committee (IT), Ministry of Communications for developing specifications of application software / hardware and data networking products (IP, ATM, data) from 1993-2002.
  • He was Team Leader for framing national policy for introduction of Next Generation Networks in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (2001- 2002).
  • He was the National Coordinator for Multipurpose Community Telecentre Project of Rajkot, jointly undertaken by ITU, UNESCO, Ministry of Communications for developing IT infrastructure in rural areas.
  • He was deputed to Bell Labs, USA to study migration to Next Generation Networks in 2001.
  • He was invited by Secretary General, ITU to act as panelist in World Telecom Summit, 99, Geneva and present a paper on ‘IT Infrastructure Development in Rural Areas’.
  • He was invited by ITU to present a paper in the conference on “Partnerships and Participation in Telecommunications” held at Guelph University in Canada in 1998.
  • I was deputed to Saudi Arabia as Chief Instructor for imparting training in Satellite Communications by TCIL in 1986.
  • I was deputed to Brunel University on ITU research fellowship for development of course on Advanced Digital Techniques in 1979.
