Department of Mathematics
Department of Mathematics was created from the very inception mainly to cater to the basic needs of the various B.Tech. programs of the Institute. It is started with a very modest beginning as a single faculty member having only a handful of courses. The role and usage of mathematics have increased manifold in the last decade with the setting in of information revolution which has resulted in substantial changes in several other disciplines also. This has put additional expectations on mathematics from the point of view of teaching, research and applications. Skills in computational mathematics are needed more than ever before. Keeping this in mind a number of new courses (core as well as elective) have been designed and introduced at graduate and post graduate level. Presently more than 35 courses are being taught by the department at various B.Tech. M.Tech. and Ph.D. Levels.
At present there are three Professors, three Associate Professors and twelve Assistant Professors in the department. Their specializations cover most of the important application areas.
Research Activities/Ph. D. Program:
We believe in developing good teaching and learning methods along with research activities in areas which are relevant to the present day needs of Science, Engineering and Technology. At present a number of research scholar are working for a Ph. D. degree in various areas of specialization. During the last five years the faculty has published a large number of papers in various national/international journals and attended various national and international conferences. Some of the areas in which research is being carried out are:
- Numerical Analysis and Computational Continuum Mechanics
- Wavelets, Fractals and Chaos, Mathematical Analysis
- Statistics, Queuing, Fuzzy and Information Theory
