Unnat Bharat Abhiyanisa flagship programme of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt.of India that aims to enrich Rural India. The scheme aims to link higher educational institutions with set of atleast five villages, so that they can contribute to economic and social betterment.

Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noidais an active member of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. Institute has adopted five villages from Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh under this program.

Motivation by the vision of Gandhi ji of self-sufficient ‘Village Republics’, Govt. of India has set its vision of holistic development of villages. Under this vision, rural areas need to be developed with local resources (both material and manpower), eco-friendly technologies so that the basic need of food, clothing, shelter, sanitation, health care, energy, livelihood, education etc. are locally met.

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell at Jaypee Institute of Information Technology Noida has be instrumental in fostering the initiative of Ministry of Education, Government of India, with the vision of bring about transformational change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India, The UBA Cell of the Institute work toward the development of five adopted villages namely, village Wazidpur, village Khairpur, village Bisrakh, village Sultanpur and village Bishanpura in Uttar Pradesh. The cell has highly active young intellectual pool of students who under the mentorship of faculty coordinators visit the village and interact with the residents to understand the problem for planning the strategic approach of providing sustainability solutions. The interactions with villages is through meeting the locals, survey, nukkad natak, rally and door-to-door campaigns. The activities organized range from fostering the Government of India’s initiative of clean India by explain the villagers the importance of waste segregation, no to single use plastic, cloth bag distribution, appraising the villagers about National Education Policy 2020. The UBA, through the nodal institute, IIT Delhi sanctioned the proposal worth rupees one lakh for developing a solar energy driven portable water filtration unit under ‘Subject Expert Group (SEG) Grant   under UBA scheme (Unique Code: UBA/NCI/0036/U-0522) titled ““Swarnim Neer - A renewable (solar) energy based portable water purification Unit ” [Technical Intervention Project No. RP-03525G]. The cell is organizing various outreach activities of societal importance including women upliftment.

The objective of the scheme is to

  • engage faculty and students of higher educational institution in understanding rural realities.
  • identify and select existing innovative technologies, enable customization of technologies or devise implementation methods for innovative solutions as required by that local community.

The scheme “Unnat Bharat Abhiyan ” is inspired by vision of transformational change in rural cluster by providing knowledge base and resources of higher educational Institutions of the country to help build the architecture of Inclusive India.

It also aims to create linkage between higher educational institute with selected rural clusters, to get involved in the planning process and to promote the requisite science and technology interventions to improvise and expedite the developmental efforts in these clusters.

Activities conducted by JIIT Noida:In this regard, JIIT Noida has understood the needs of selected villages and exploring the possibilities of customizing existing technologies as per the local needs. The institute participated in various activities suggested by MHRD i.e Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Program, Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign etc. The institute has prepared an action plan for the selected villages to enrich rural life, in close coordination with all stakeholders and is in process of implementation of the action plan in coordination with local administration and other stakeholders.
