Mathematics plays an important role in the advancement of various domains of knowledge related to modern sciences, engineering, management, etc. The global need of researchers, scientists and engineers, trained with advanced computational skills, is on an all-time high in this age of information technology and digitisation. M. Tech. in Applied and Computational Mathematics was introduced in the year 2008 in the Department of Mathematics of JIIT with the objectives of providing a rigorous training and a rich mathematical experience for the development of analytical and logical thinking and problem solving abilities among the students. The students of the programme are made aware of the advanced computing methods, simulation and modelling and in depth knowledge of the emerging topics in applied and computational mathematics, enabling them to deal with the problems faced by industry and other sectors. 

The curriculum and the course contents of  M. Tech. Mathematics and Computing are designed to keep a fervour of interdisciplinary nature of the programme. It provides a broader understanding of different aspects of applied mathematics on one hand and their interdisciplinary applications on the other. Students will be able to choose from areas like, Analysis, Statistics, Operation Research, Numerical Mathematics and Computing. They are also required to take suitable courses from engineering, science and humanity departments. The lab courses provide necessary training in advanced techniques of software and simulation. The lab-based application oriented courses and the use of software, such as Mathematica, Matlab, Maple, etc., comprise an important feature of M. Tech. in Applied and Computational Mathematics programme. One of the major components of the programme is its computational science dissertation project work that is carried on by the students on any important and emerging topics. 

On the successful completion of this programme, the candidates will be better suited for:
